Ca Assembly 1414 - Resident Internet Choice
Dear Resident,
Starting January 1, 2026, new California Assembly Bill 1414 (AB 1414) provides resident internet choice via state law. If you have a landlord-provided internet service and feel you’re paying too much, you have other options.
Here’s what AB1414 means for you:
You have the right to choose your internet provider
Landlords cannot restrict what internet service you choose to use. Even if your building includes internet service as part of your rent, you are not required to use that service.
You can deduct the cost of bulk internet from your rent
Under AB 1414, renters may deduct the cost of the bulk internet service from their monthly rent if they choose to use a different provider instead. This ensures you are not paying twice for internet service.
Monkeybrains wants to service your building
Monkeybrains provides reliable gigabit internet for a flat rate of $35 per month (often significantly less than the cost of bulk internet service.) They are locally owned and operated, providing internet with no contract, no teaser rates, or additional monthly fees.
